How to donate furniture to 9 Lives
If you have good quality used furniture and household items that you no longer want, you can donate them to 9 Lives Furniture. We collect items for free and display them in our warehouse in Rickmansworth, where anybody is welcome.
Frequently asked questions:-
- I would like to donate furniture. What do I have to do?
-
Please call (01923) 718666. We will ask you about the items you have to donate and arrange an appointment to pick them up from you. Our drivers do two collection/delivery rounds daily (Tuesday to Friday)
- How much notice do you need?
- If you are donating small items of furniture we can arrange a collection when you call. However for larger items such as three piece suites we do need as much notice as possible. Sometimes because we are offered so many bulky items we may need to put your details onto our waiting list so please leave yourself and us as much time as possible.
- What sort of things do you take?
- We take anything that is a fast moving item such as: Dining tables and matching chairs, chests of drawers, sofas, beds, coffee tables, wardrobes, rugs, bric a brac, curtains, books. We also take electrical items that are in working order.
- Are there any restrictions on what you will take?
-
We only take electrical items that are in good working order and are less than five years old.
We only take items that are in good, clean condition. We can only take sofas, armchairs, beds and dining chairs with fabric on them if they carry fire labels.
All upholstered furniture, including mattresses, must have a fire label attached. On sofas and armchairs this will read:
'Complies with the furniture and furnishings (fire) (safety) regulations 1988.'
Mattresses and divan bases must have a blue framed label which refers to BS7177 sewn into the end wall.
- What sort of things do you not take?
- We do not take large wall units, anything without a fire label (unless it's pre-1950), large heavy wardrobes or pianos.
- What happens once the furniture has been collected?
-
We inspect, price and display the furniture in our warehouse. The price listed on the ticket is the price the general public pay. For people who are referred to our scheme there is a 50% discount so the item immediately becomes half price. Anyone can come along to our warehouse. Our aim is to move as much furniture as possible in order to keep items out of landfill and to provide a quick turnaround of stock so that there is always plenty of choice.
- Where does the money go?
- 9 Lives Furniture is a not-for-profit organisation. The money taken goes back to 9 Lives Furniture to help us continue to provide our valuable services to the community.
